Firstly, we learned how to use Photoshop to create a front cover, incorporating an original digital photo. We used tools such as the magnetic lasso tool to cut out parts of an image, the eraser to neaten it and adjusted brightness and contrast. Photoshop arranges the all the elements into different layers, and you can use the navigator tool to zoom in.
Next we went to the Old Vic to interview a Producer, Director, Actor and Education Officer about their jobs. We used digitial video cameras and recorded the sound using clip microphones. We had to make sure that the interviewees were framed well, with a medium close up shot and some looking space. We also had to make sure that the camera was positioned with a light source behind it so the interviewee would be well lit.
After that we made some fact sheets about the theatre jobs, demonstrating our Photoshop skills. We also did some independent research on the internet to find out more about those jobs. Some students had the opportunity to learn how to edit the video interview footage on the Apple Mac computers using Final Cut Express software.
The following week we went to see Annie Get Your Gun at the Young Vic theatre, starring Jane Horrocks as Annie (who in my opinion was FANTASTIC as always).
